6 reasons websites fail

By David Clarke – Managing Director at DBS Marketing

Lincolnshire businesses have tended to iron out problems with their latest generation of websites but there are often some outstanding issues.

1. No news is not good news
There is nothing worse than having a news section on your website containing old news or no news at all. It's a signal to your visitors that your business is stagnant. Having a constantly refreshed news section is also a good idea for SEO.

2. Site not optimised for search engines
Web developers are generally good at one thing - that's right – developing websites! Websites are a vital marketing tool so it's a good idea to pick out a web company that knows SEO.

3. Social media
People form opinions about your firm based on what is shared about you online. If a competitor appears to be smarter and more reliable than you based on what's shared online then they will get the enquiries you don't. Embrace social media and aim to post daily.

4. Calls to Action
Your website should contain multiple calls to action. Your contact numbers need to be at least at the top and bottom of each web page.

Prospects may visit your website out of hours so add forms to your web pages such as "arrange a call back" or "ask a question".

5. Choice of web software
Companies sometimes opt for free or low cost web software. Many Lincolnshire firms have found themselves tied in where the only way out is a complete knock down and website rebuild which wipes out initial savings.

6. Analytics
"If you can't measure it you can't manage it". Google Analytics is a free powerful tool that is a must have for all websites. Analytics show how people got to your website and what they do when they get there which is an incredible health check for your site.
