"They saved my life, not just for me but for my family"

Cliff Middleton and his wide Lucille Middleton from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, share their emotional memories of Cliff's near death experience, and how LIVES responders helped to save his life in LIVE'S latest video.

LIVES (Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service) are today sharing the emotional story of Cliff and Lucille. After Cliff collapsed whilst on a routine run in his village, a bystander found him and called 999. LIVES responders were first on scene and preformed life saving CPR and defibrillation. During the traumatic experience, his wife Lucille was unaware that this was happening just minutes away from their family home.

Sadly only 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Like a lot of other medical emergencies, the potential for saving a life is dependent upon time; the faster help can be obtained the better the chance of survival.

On reflection, Cliff Middleton said "The thing about Cardiac Arrest is it’s not just about the person who has had it, it’s about all of the people around them. They saved my life, not just for me but for my family"

"I always say I have had four bonus Christmases thanks to the people that helped me out."

To ensure more people in Lincolnshire learn life-saving CPR, we are running sessions throughout the year in your community, with the aim to teach as many people as possible how to save a life. To find out further information contact savealife@lives.org.uk or call 01507 525 999.
