Provision is offered in all key sectors of land-based work, including agriculture, animal management, engineering and equine and has recently invested in state-of-the-art sport, health and nutrition provision to broaden the offering even further, sited at our £24m Showground campus.
The new facilities play a key role in filling a skills gap in food, nutrition and health in the region. The college’s new provision in health, nutrition and food explores the full food chain; everything from food distribution to marketing, and all stages in between. For every one job in production and agriculture, there will be at least 10 elsewhere in the food chain.
The new food and nutrition provision also dovetails in with sport and fitness; exploring the links between nutrition and elite performance. Young people will be able to learn about the impact of nutrition on sports performance and then put theory into practice using our state-of-the-art fitness centre.
A commitment to practical work experience on all courses and wider participation is a distinctive feature of the college. The college’s commercial enterprises play a key role in providing students with real-life working environments, as does the college’s focus on work placement and ensuring students complete their studies with the practical, and most up-to-date, skills needed to enter the workplace.
This contributes to some of the highest success rates in the country, with 96% of FE students and 94% of HE students progressing to employment or a higher level of study within six months of completing their course.
