Popular store reopens after £1.5m makeover

Lincolnshire Co-op’s Tattershall Food Store closed in January to allow the £1.5m project to take place.

Work has included restoration of the front of the building so it blends in with the historic Market Place.

There’s lots of new ranges to tempt shoppers, plus more chilled food, beers and wines and an extensive instore bakery.

Love Local products from the surrounding area include Lincolnshire Poacher cheeses, made near Alford, Dennetts ice cream, churned in Spilsby and Bateman’s beers, brewed in Wainfleet.

The scheme to revitalise the outlet took years of careful planning and Lincolnshire Co-op worked with East Lindsey District Council’s heritage department to bring the project forward.

Before and after the refurbishments

It saw creation of a traditional-style wooden shopfront, restoration of sash windows and the introduction of a bay window at the next-door unit – these bespoke pieces were crafted from hardwood by contractor Lindum Joinery over eight weeks in its North Hykeham workshop.

Original slate was used to retile the roof and a chimney stack was reinstated.

Manager Sarah Hutt said: “The reaction from customers has been so positive, they’ve been astounded at the difference between the old store and the new one.

“Some have said how much they like the front of the building and how it matches the village. Others have been impressed with all the new ranges in-store and how its changed inside.

“It’s been brilliant to see so many regular customers popping back in to say hello to the team and we hope we’ll be welcoming lots of new faces too.”
