Outstanding GCSE Results at Lincoln UTC

Students at Lincoln University Technical College (UTC) have achieved outstanding GCSE results in the school’s specialist subjects; engineering, maths, science and technology.

81% of UTC GCSE students achieved between a grade 4-9 in both English and maths. 89% of students passed their specialist engineering qualifications, where the grades awarded were based on coursework completed before the lockdown.

UTC A Level results were strong last week even before the government’s U-turn. However, following the welcome decision to honour centre assessed grades several UTC students have seen an increase, with 64% of all students achieving A*-B and 86% achieving A*-C.

“This has been a very difficult year for us all but particularly for examination year students. Therefore, we are particularly pleased that despite numerous challenges our students have achieved excellent and very well-deserved GCSE results.” said the Principal of Lincoln UTC, John Morrison.

“We are delighted that many of our year 11 students have chosen to remain at the UTC to continue their studies in our sixth form, and also look forward to welcoming new students in September.”

UTC student Edward Pitts-Drake achieved a combination of grade 8s and 9s in his GCSEs. He plans to continue at the UTC studying A Levels in maths, physics, chemistry and biology. Edward said: “I’m absolutely ecstatic with my grades. Moving to the UTC in year 10 was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I can’t thank my teachers enough for their support.”

Paul Birt, Chair of Governors at Lincoln UTC and Head of HR  – Smart Infrastructure Division at Siemens GB&I said: “It has been another tremendous year for Lincoln UTC and its students. To have achieved such outstanding results is remarkable, especially considering the impact of the pandemic on examinations and circumstances for students this year.

I would like to thank our excellent staff for their dedication and inspiration whilst congratulating our students on their results.”

Lincoln UTC provides a specialist education for students wishing to pursue a future career in science, engineering, maths or technology. The college is still accepting applications in year 10 and year 12 for the 2020/21 academic year. Visit www.lincolnutc.co.uk or email enquiries@lincolnutc.co.uk for more information.
