LightSpeed Broadband achieves 30,000 homes passed milestone as it celebrates its first anniversary

LightSpeed Broadband recently announced that its FTTP multi-gigabit broadband network now passes more than 30,000 homes in the East of England and that it is expanding its build locations to reach 32 towns across the region, as it celebrates the first anniversary of its launch.

LightSpeed started the rollout of its network in April last year in ten towns across South Lincolnshire and West Norfolk. Thousands of customers are now able to connect to the network in 32 of these towns with thousands more homes and businesses being added every week. The build has since expanded across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex with build ongoing in twenty five towns across the region and a further five towns now being added to the network.

The build has since expanded across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex and is twenty-five towns across the region with a further seven towns now being added to the network.

The new towns are: Attleborough and Downham Market in Norfolk; Haverhill, Wivenhoe and Woodham Ferrers in Essex; Soham in Cambridgeshire and Oakham in Rutland.

On a mission to reach 200,000 homes across the East of England by end of this year and become the region’s leading provider, the LightSpeed has created its headquarters in Spalding, South Lincolnshire. With more than one hundred people now employed by the business, the company has focused on recruiting local people and more than 55 jobs are based across the region.

With a strategy to build a high-quality end to end network, at speed, in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way, LightSpeed is reusing existing infrastructure where possible, helping to reduce disruption to residents and speed up the roll-out.

Steve Haines, Deputy Chairman, LightSpeed Broadband, commented: “We have literally been moving at ‘light speed’ to build our network and deliver our vision of becoming a leading regional player in the East of England. We are now connecting customers from across our first wave of towns and have created a strong regionally based team with the aim of providing a fantastic local customer experience.

We are on track to reach our target of passing 200,000 homes and businesses across South Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex by the end of this year and I am thrilled we are in such a strong position after just one year!”

LightSpeed is currently connecting customers across its ten ‘wave one’ towns which include Boston, Bourne, Holbeach, King’s Lynn, Market Deeping, Skegness, Sleaford, Spalding and Stamford.

Build is ongoing in a further twenty ‘wave two’ towns: Braintree, Clacton-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea, Halstead, Haverhill, Harwich, Maldon, Manningtree, Wivenhoe, Witham, Woodham Ferrers in Essex; Attleborough, Cromer, Dereham, Downham Market, Fakenham, Hunstanton, Sheringham and Thetford in Norfolk; Stowmarket in Suffolk; Soham in Cambridgeshire and Oakham in Rutland
