LinCA responds to latest report showing “worrying” results affecting the social care sector

The State of the adult social care sector and workforce in England report has revealed the number of job postings in the social care sector has increased to 1.79m, despite a 55% drop in vacancies since 2020/1.

Created by Skillsforcare Workforce Intelligence, the report highlights the challenges the social care sector in England faces, including the need for an additional 480,000 people to work in the sector by 2035 to keep up with demand.

Lincolnshire Care Association (LinCA) reflects on the “worrying trends” shown within the 2022 report, with a latest statement from Melanie Weatherley MBE, chair of the organisation.
Melanie said: “The drop in the numbers employed when the demand is rising is very worrying. We need to recognise the value of our workforce in pay, as well as development and career opportunities. A fully staffed social care sector is essential to support the NHS through winter as well as enabling individuals to live fulfilled lives.

“There needs to be a real investment in social care and a push for decent wages for the thousands of social care workers across our country. Without financial assistance from the government, the sector will continue to struggle to pay their workforce fair wages, and people will struggle to continue finding care for themselves and their loved ones.”

“As always, LinCA is committed to working to support the social care sector to recruit, retain and develop their workforce.”

LinCA represents care and support providers in both the independent and voluntary sectors. The UK adult social care sector supports some of the most vulnerable people in society, and

LinCA works closely alongside care providers across Lincolnshire by supporting their delivery of effective services and ensuring a sustainable choice of quality care provisions.
