10th Ongo Carnival was their biggest and best yet

Ongo held their 10^th carnival on Wednesday 7 August at Manor Park in Scunthorpe, attracting over three thousand people of all ages, from near and far.

The day, which is totally free, was hailed a huge success with fairground rides, bouncy castles, face painting, stalls, animal petting and fun activities for the whole family to get involved in.

Crowds were treated to superb performances from local acts including Field of Dreams dog display, Messingham Martial Arts, Kimberley Performing Arts,  Fire Storm, A oh K and Pipers & Highland Dancers.

Humberside Fire and Rescue, North Lindsey College, Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Humberside Police, UCNL, Carers Support, Citizens Advice, Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Switchee, Cadent, Amphion, Co-Op, Ashbridge Roofing and Hales and Coultas were just some of the organisations attending on the day.

This is Ongo’s biggest annual event and is just one of the ways they deliver on their promise of giving back to local communities.

Pete Smith, who lives locally and attended the event said: “Today has been brilliant, I’ve come with my son and we’ve had such a good day together, playing football and getting involved in all the different things on offer.

“Being from the area I know how much things like this are important and appreciated. For many, they can’t afford big days out with their family, so to be able to come here for free, it’s just fantastic.

“The best bit for me is seeing everyone come together, make special memories and just have a really good time. I think Ongo have done a great job today.”

Since the first Ongo Carnival it is estimated that over 23,000 have attended in total, over 30 local groups have performed, and more than 200 different agencies have attended to share information and promote services.

Each year attendance grows, with people visiting from further afield.

Wendy Wolfe, Customer Engagement Manager at Ongo and event organiser said: “Wow, ten carnivals, what an achievement. I’d like to thank each and every person who has made it a success, from our tenants and customers to colleagues, performers and external organisations that help to make it so special.

“I feel so very lucky to work for an organisation that invests in events, activities and projects like this. They are open and accessible to all and make a massive difference to people’s lives.

“Every year I’m blown away by the how many people show up and all the smiley, happy faces I’m surrounded by.

“As one ends, planning for the next begins. We hope everyone had the most amazing time, and we can’t wait to do it all again at Ongo Carnival 2025.”
