Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) is pleased to announce that new Vice Chancellor Professor Andrew Gower has formally taken up his role effective from Tuesday 22nd April 2025.
Professor Gower has worked in education for 30 years and originally trained as a teacher. He has held senior roles at Canterbury Christ Church University and his most recent appointment was as Principal and CEO of Morley College London.
Andrew Gower, Vice Chancellor of Bishop Grosseteste University, said: “I am delighted to be starting in role at Bishop Grosseteste University. It is both a great privilege and a great responsibility to have been appointed Vice Chancellor and CEO.
“I am excited to start working with colleagues to serve the interests of our students, the staff team, and the University’s many stakeholders.
“I very much look forward to celebrating the success of our students at their upcoming graduation ceremonies this summer.”
Since his appointment as Vice Chancellor of BGU in November 2024, Andrew has been awarded the title of Professor in Lifelong Learning, reflecting the impact of a decade of successful leadership of one of the largest and oldest Institutes of Adult Learning in the UK, Morley College London.
Connecting lifelong learning with the leadership of BGU underscores the University’s social purpose and the transformative impact of learning at every age and stage. By working in partnership to encourage the acquisition of higher skills and a return to learn, Andrew’s appointment as Vice-Chancellor will help to provide a stable foundation for growth at BGU.
Anne Frost, Chair of the Bishop Grosseteste University Council, said: "I am delighted to share the news that Professor Andrew Gower formally joined Bishop Grosseteste University as Vice Chancellor on Tuesday 22nd April.
“Andrew brings extensive experience of education leadership, and I am confident that this, coupled with his passion for lifelong learning, will have a positive impact on all areas of the University, enhancing the experience of students and achieving our social purpose.
“Andrew’s values absolutely align with BGU's purpose and mission, including supporting individuals to create positive change in their communities. Council members look forward to working with him to achieve those shared goals alongside our committed community of staff, students, council and stakeholders.”
