APSS shake it up with new office fit out

Lincolnshire-based commercial interior design and fit out business APSS has given a new lease of life to its offices following a significant refurbishment.

The company decided it was time for a makeover and created an office as good as the ones it designs for customers. The APSS design team put together new plans to modernise the layout and adapt it to a more collaborative way of working. This included creating new meeting areas which provide different heights to work at and has proven to help with staff wellbeing.

“Bland, badly lit, run of the mill, magnolia offices have significant negative effects on staff productivity, morale and their health and wellbeing. They also don’t lend themselves to being somewhere you want to invite potential clients and customers,” explained Rachael Ladd, the designer behind the new look APSS office.

“By creating a brighter workspace which allows for the maximum natural light to penetrate the office and meeting rooms alike, it is already a natural boost to your staff.”

Located on Kingsley Road, Lincoln, APSS are specialists in commercial interiors, office refurbishments and retail interior fit outs – with national clients in sectors including education, healthcare, industrial, commercial and retail.

The new APSS office fit out features a floor to ceiling graphic of a Lincolnshire field, which in addition to providing a pleasing image, is a link to the company’s local roots in an agricultural county.

An inspirational word wall in one of the meeting rooms provides customer testimonials and the keywords that APSS aspires to be. A new biophilic green wall encased by scaffold planks and created by the APSS Joinery department provides a stunning feature as the first thing seen when arriving in the office area.

The scattered carpet arrangement of greys and greens blends with the company’s branding and provides a modern attribute to the design. It is also designed to work with the furniture arrangement across the mezzanine floor.

Rachael continued: “Most people don’t realise how easily you can change people’s attitudes just by making changes to their working environment. That’s why we have designed the APSS offices as a showroom to showcase the wide variety of changes that can have a positive impact on staff. It is designed to inspire customers, making them think about what they want their offices to do for them.”

The new-look office features a variety of meeting room options from a formal briefing room to a relaxed environment with more comfortable seating. There are also areas designed for larger-scale project meetings. The tables are at varying heights which has productivity and health benefits for staff as well.

The office has been kitted out with bespoke joinery items to showcase the talent its in-house joinery department has, such as fitted storage and planter storage units.

“We have used a lot of products that many people didn’t know existed such as the textured wallpaper in the print room that literally feels like a sheet of feathers. The high table next to the biophilic wall is made from scaffolding and is incredibly popular now,” Rachael said.

Stuart Marsland, Sales Director for APSS said: “It’s great to be able to show customers the potential their offices have and inspire them to do something more than have single colour walls. A company’s office needs to reflect its brand and personality.

“It has the ability to provide a lasting impression on customers and clients as well as provide a better working life for staff. We have noticed a huge change since the completion of our own offices. There has been more collaboration and staff have been able to meet to discuss projects in the office without having to segregate themselves from the main area. It has had a wonderfully positive effect on the atmosphere in the office.

“We are happy to give business people a look around to see if we can inspire them to make a difference in their staff’s working lives.”
