Council approves an Environment Policy for Boston

Boston Borough Council recognises environmental awareness and accountability is essential to sustaining a high quality of life for Boston and this was made a priority in the recently published Corporate Strategy. The new Environment Policy now underpins that vision.

Four themes have been set and under each theme several priorities have been identified. The themes are as follows:

Theme one: Protecting and recovering our natural environment

Theme two: Mitigating and adapting to climate change

Theme three: Enhancing our built environment

Theme four: Ensuring a sustainable approach to waste and resource management

Councillor Paul Skinner, Leader of Boston Borough Council, said: “The Council recognises the impact of its own operations and is committed to using its powers and influence to minimise and address this while supporting others to do the same.

“This Environment Policy provides a framework from which more detailed strategic documents and project plans will be developed. It sets out four key themes that provide the context for the Council as it works to deliver the new corporate priority around environmental awareness and accountability.

“We want to lead by example and to encourage others to improve their environmental performance.  To do this we are committed to working with our partner organisations and encouraging the wider community to exercise greater care for the environment, as it is everyone’s responsibility to help achieve this goal.”
