Four senior promotions at Duncan & Toplis

Experts in tax and business take top roles at one of the East Midlands’ biggest accountants and business advisers.

Sarah Holford and Matthew Appleyard have been appointed as directors at Duncan & Toplis, while Chris Wright and Alison Smith have been promoted as associate directors.

Sarah Holford, who has been appointed as Tax Director has supported clients with a wide range of tax advisory services for more than 20 years. Born and raised in Lincolnshire, Sarah attended Skegness Grammar School before starting her career as a trainee at Duncan & Toplis where she has worked throughout her career. Having qualified with the CTA and ATT, Sarah has helped hundreds of businesses and individuals in the area with their tax affairs, helping clients to efficiently achieve their goals while ensuring compliance. She now leads on private client tax projects.

Taking on this leadership role at the company, Sarah said:

“When I finished school, Duncan & Toplis was known as one of the most reputable employers in my area and I was very proud to join the team. Since then, our business has grown as the company has evolved to become the dynamic and trusted organisation we know today. I’m honoured to have been appointed as a new director, and look forward to continuing to help our clients.”

Also becoming a director is Matthew Appleyard who joined the company in 2013. An expert in tax planning, Matthew will be specialising in international tax structuring for corporate clients alongside Head of international, Mark Taylor who leads the company’s new international business services gateway, Kreston Duncan & Toplis.

Matthew is a member of Duncan & Toplis’ tax advisory team who works across the company to support clients. A specialist in tax advice, business tax and stamp duty, Matthew has particular expertise in corporate transactions and has been involved in a number of mergers and demergers as well as acquisitions and disposals. Matthew is also the company’s head of property and construction.

Meanwhile, Chris Wright who works at the company’s Stamford office and Alison Smith in Boston are both being promoted as associates.

Chris has worked in accountancy since 1999, working at several East Midlands firms before joining Duncan & Toplis in 2018. Chris has supported companies in a wide range of sectors including childcare, consultancy and agriculture.

Proud Bostonian, Alison Smith joined Duncan & Toplis in 1994 after completing a degree in Classics at Manchester University. After qualifying with the company, Alison left Duncan & Toplis to gain experience in the construction sector, Alison returned in 2013 to help develop the company’s specialist Academies team before taking on a client management role at Duncan & Toplis’ Boston office.

The four senior promotions reflect the success Duncan & Toplis has experienced despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Over the last year, Duncan & Toplis team members have taken on vital roles in helping companies in a wide range of sectors to adapt to the rapidly changing environment, protect their workers, and access the most suitable support schemes and packages.

In recent months, the company has launched a new international gateway, Kreston Duncan & Toplis and it has also launched a new legal services practice, Duncan & Toplis Legal Services.
