Read MoreEvery year, Fire Door Safety Week raises awareness and helps save lives. We need to root out fire doors that are ill-fitted, damaged or poorly maintained and ensure that all buildings are equipped with fire doors that are fit for purpose.
Tenants and residents need to have confidence in them and have clear guidance about fire safety plans and measures, and be able to report concerns that are then actioned. The time has come for all parties to fully play their role in the critical matter of fire safety and this is why we have created this dedicated advice page.
Lincoln Security are proud to support Fire Door Safety Week again this year running from the 20th – 26th September. We are aiming to raise awareness of the importance of fire door checks in Homes, Offices, Public Buildings and Shops. Ensuring all doors are fit for purpose and are in good condition is essential, if you suspect that a fire door is faulty or does not look correct, it is vital that you report it to the building manager or however is in charge of that premises.
Taking a small amount of time to assess a fire door and notify the proper authority can save lives.
Jason Healy, Lincoln Security’s Commercial Sales Director said: “Fire Door Safety Week is an important industry event and Lincoln Security are proud to be supporting this cause for another year. We supply, fit, maintain and repair thousands of fire doors over the course of the year and raising awareness on their proper care is of paramount importance to ensuring people are kept safe. Lincoln Security offer free surveys for all fire doors and more information, including a 5 Step Fire Door Checklist is available on our website.”
Whilst Fire Doors are regularly found present in offices and homes, over one third of people admitting to propping open a fire door and 50% have seen one propped open.
The misuse of fire doors and the associated hardware can cause faults to develop over time, leading to the fire door not providing adequate protection in the event of a fire. We asked our fire door surveyors to break down some different parts of fire doors to give more of an understanding as to why they’re important.
Fire Rated Hinges
Hinges and latches have an important role in ensuring the integrity of the door. The fire door hinges must remain adequately attached, in spite of the charring of wood in the vicinity. It is common to use three hinges on a fire door to prevent it from warping.

Fire DoorGuards
The DoorGuard is a smart, standalone device which can be fixed to a fire door in seconds to provide a reliable way to keep it open whilst listening out for fire alarms and, upon hearing an alarm over 80dB, will automatically release the door to a closed position, helping to comply with fire safety laws.
DoorGuards help to maintain access to rooms whilst improving fire safety. Most models feature a timer which can be set to release the DoorGuard during specified hours such as during the night.
Fire Door Closers
Fire Door Closers are installed to ensure that, after a door is opened, it naturally returns to a closed position where it can offer full protection from fire.
Door closers work by using the energy built-up when opening the door, to close it. There are a number of different types of fire door closers, some of which are even concealed within the doors themselves
If you have a fire door in your home or office and would like to have it inspected then Lincoln Security offer a free, no obligation survey. Alternatively, please download our 5 Step Fire Door Checklist to assess whether your fire doors are in suitable condition.
