Ongo apprenticeship success

Ongo are celebrating national apprenticeship week with a record number employed through the scheme and even more progressing into full time employment afterwards.

The week is organised by the National Careers Service, who coordinate the delivery of apprenticeships in England, and is dedicated to highlighting the positive impact the scheme has on businesses, individuals and the economy.

Currently Ongo has 16 apprentices working in a range of roles including Heating and Plumbing, Customer Service, Joinery, Plastering, Digital Marketing, Ongo Recruitment, and Community Development, to name a few. Each individual is also undertaking a relevant qualification and has a dedicated mentor to support them.

For a number of years Ongo has invested in taking on apprentices, to tie in with their promise of investing into local communities and provide opportunities. Most recently with 20 existing staff undertaking a higher level apprenticeship in Housing and Leadership, with the next cohort starting in February.

They have a high success rate with 27 members of staff, who started as an apprentice, now in full time employment within the organisation, and even more moving on externally thanks to their experience.

Mo Mathieson, Organisational Development Manager at Ongo said: “Our commitment is to take on at least 13 apprentices within our organisation at any one time, but because of the huge benefits the scheme brings, that number is ever increasing.

“It’s great for us to take someone on with little to no knowledge of that job role, to then see them learn and grow into an experienced professional with qualifications and on the job knowledge.

“That’s what it’s all about for us, it really is a fantastic way of getting your foot in the door and starting your career and we can’t wait to welcome more in the future.”

Along with their own apprenticeships, Ongo’s Recruitment team are also heavily involved in the scheme locally, as they help other businesses to access funding and hire their own apprentices.
