Ongo Carnival attracts thousands

Thousands flocked to Manor Park in Scunthorpe on Wednesday 3 August for the Ongo Carnival, making it the biggest and best one yet.

The annual event had taken two years off due to Covid, but came back with more fun activities than before. This included go karting, bouncy castles, face painting, balloon modelling, animal petting, fairground rides, sports games, a circus workshop and lots more fun on Ongo stalls.

Crowds were also given great performances from local acts Field of Dreams dog display, Scunthorpe and District Pipe Band, Tsunami Allstars cheerleading, Messingham Martial Arts, Kimberley Performing Arts and Fire Storm.

Wendy Wolfe, Customer Experience Manager at Ongo and organiser of the event said: “Thank you to everyone for making the day a huge success.

“We have worked towards this event for the past couple of years and it was brilliant to be back together for the whole community to enjoy.”

Sarah Heron, a local mum who lives and works in the area said: “We’ve had such a fab day at our yearly tradition, the Ongo Carnival.

“My son had the best time and one hour in said ‘wow, I’ve been so spoilt’ and I hadn’t spent a penny. We are so lucky to have this on our doorstep every year. Huge thanks to everyone that makes it possible.”

Many took to social media to post their reactions to the day.

Jackie Love commented: “Well done Ongo, all your stalls, rides and efforts you have gone to. We have all had a great afternoon.”

Dawn Wilson-Oldridge commented: “Brilliant day at Ongo Carnival with the grandkids, just want to thank all that organise it, you do a fantastic job.”

Humberside Fire and Rescue, University Centre North Lincolnshire, North Lindsey College, Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Humberside Police, Andrews Hedgehog Hospital, Carers Support and Citizens Advice were just some of the organisations joining in on the day.

The team at Ongo are busy planning for next year, so if you’re a local organisation, performer or catering service and want to be there, or for those wishing to attend, keep an eye out on social media and their website: www.ongo.co.uk.
