Read MoreOngo, a leading social housing provider, is delighted to announce the successful securing of £2.3 million from the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund. This significant investment will drive essential improvements to 169 homes, enhancing energy efficiency, tenant comfort, and affordability.
The allocated funds will address critical issues faced by residents. The project aims to alleviate fuel inefficiency challenges by implementing targeted improvements that will directly benefit Ongo’s valued tenants.
Ongo is proud to partner with Equans, an experienced external supplier, to carry out the necessary works. Their expertise and dedication will be instrumental in achieving our goals.
Key Objectives of the Project:
Enhancing Energy Efficiency: The funding will enable Ongo to carry out essential works earlier than anticipated, resulting in better energy-efficient homes for our residents.
Improved Thermal Comfort: By upgrading insulation, heating systems, and ventilation, we will enhance the thermal comfort of our tenants, making their homes more pleasant to live in.
Reducing Bills and Alleviating Fuel Poverty: The project will significantly reduce energy bills for residents, providing much-needed relief to those facing fuel poverty.
Andrea Morley, Sustainability and Carbon Reduction Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to have received this funding. We know what a huge difference it will make to our tenants and their homes.
“A lot of hard work went into the bid, and our partner, Equans, played a pivotal role in securing this funding. The real work starts now, and we’re excited to improve our homes and make them much more efficient to run.”
The funding will be allocated to a mixture of essential works, tailored to each property’s specific needs. While not all properties will receive the same upgrades, the big selling point for our customers is that 167 out of 169 homes will benefit from solar panels. These panels will harness renewable energy, contributing to both environmental sustainability and cost savings for our tenants.
The final decision on the specific work will be based on a comprehensive retrofit survey, one of the initial steps in the project. Ongo anticipate work to begin in early May 2024, following communication with tenants who will directly benefit from these improvements.
The homes selected for this project are those rated EPC D or below, currently considered poor performers in terms of energy efficiency. Ongo’s commitment is to ensure that the work carried out has the maximum impact, transforming these properties into comfortable, sustainable homes.
