Ongo show commitment to ending male violence against women

Ongo has taken a stand to end male violence against women by becoming White Ribbon accredited.

White Ribbon is a global campaign that encourages people, especially men and boys, to take action on changing the behaviour and culture that leads to abuse. To wear a white ribbon is a promise to never to commit, excuse, or remain silent about male violence against women.

Commitments made by Ongo include the development of policies and procedures for colleagues in both professional and personal circumstances. They have appointed volunteer ambassadors, set up working groups with representatives from across the organisation, and training will be rolled out.

Anthea Sully, Chief Executive of White Ribbon UK said: “Our call to end violence by raising awareness, educating and campaigning to bring about change is greatly strengthened by working together with our White Ribbon accredited organisations.

“We are delighted to welcome Ongo as one of our White Ribbon accredited organisations. Together we can prevent violence happening in the first place.”

Ongo will be raising awareness of the campaign at community events, including the Ongo Carnival and engagement activities throughout the region. During November they are also launching a campaign for customers and colleagues to get involved in.

Steve Hepworth, Chief Executive at Ongo said: “I am a proud ambassador of the White Ribbon campaign and am delighted that our organisation is taking a leading role in supporting it.

“It’s so important for us to raise awareness on this subject throughout our communities, encourage people to speak out and above all, stand up and take action.”

More than 100 organisations have a White Ribbon accreditation, including councils, police forces, fire and rescue services, health authorities, housing associations, schools and universities.
