Finalised in July 2020, the Strategic Alliance between Boston Borough and East Lindsey District Councils sees both organisations share a joint Chief Executive and Corporate Management Team; both councils are also working to merge their respective workforces over the coming months and years, with a number teams already collaborating in many areas of the organisation.
When plans for the Alliance were announced earlier in the year, the Councils stated that the ambitious plans would see them save a total of £15.4m over ten years and, after little more than three months, the Alliance has already identified £600,000 of ongoing savings in the current financial year.
A further £1.2m of savings are expected to be achieved in 2021/ 22, meaning the Alliance is well on track to hit the £15m target.
Speaking about the positive progress made so far, Councillor Paul Skinner, Boston Borough Council Leader, said:
“The Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on finances across the country and so to be able to quickly identify these savings through the Alliance is fantastic news. The continued savings we will make, and the greater unified voice we will now share in future funding discussions, are a huge positive and will help ensure that we are able to continue providing the services our residents need in the future.
“Our new One Team approach has also already provided a massive benefit in terms of progress on each council’s major growth projects and I’m sure the benefits we and our residents see will only increase as services continue to come together.”
East Lindsey District Council Leader, Councillor Craig Leyland, added:
“I’m incredibly pleased with how far the Alliance has come in such a short time. This has been a most extraordinary year and one in which we have seen more challenge than ever before to continue delivering our services to those who rely on them whilst under significant financial pressure.
“The savings we have achieved so far, and those we make in the future, will be vital in helping us continue to do that. Officers across the Alliance are already working closer together than ever before and it has been great to see teams embrace the opportunity to learn from one another and identify how they can improve the services we offer to our residents.”
