New University Buildings Shortlisted for Prestigious Property Awards

The University of Lincoln, UK, has been nominated for awards in two categories at the prestigious Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards 2018, East Midlands.

The RICS regional awards recognise the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure. They celebrate the achievements and successes of RICS professionals and their impact on local communities.

The Sarah Swift Building has been shortlisted in the Regeneration Category while Cygnet Wharf has been shortlisted in the Commercial Category. Both buildings opened at the start of the 2017/18 academic year as part of a major programme of investment in facilities at the University’s Brayford Pool Campus.

The Sarah Swift Building was constructed on a brownfield site between an existing University building and a railway line and brings two of the University’s largest academic departments – the School of Health and Social Care and School of Psychology – together under one roof. The building houses state-of-the art clinical skills suites for healthcare students, and psychology labs.

Cygnet Wharf is the latest development of the University’s Student Village and welcomed its first tenants in September 2017. The three-building complex was designed to offer a traditional ‘halls of residence experience’ and consists of three contemporary buildings of self-catered apartments, which each house between five and 12 students. In total there are 442 furnished student bedrooms.

Harvey Dowdy, Director of Estates at the University of Lincoln, said: “We are delighted that these two major new buildings have been recognised for their contribution in respect of regeneration and commercial activity at these prestigious awards and are looking forward to the regional finals in May.”

Chair of the RICS Awards 2018, East Midlands judging panel, Will Evans of EIGroup PLC said: “This year we have received some very diverse and outstanding projects from all parts of the East Midlands. Each and every project showcases the exceptional talent behind these buildings of our future.

“The variety of projects highlights the development that is happening right across the region and I am confident 2018 will be a hotly contested year. I look forward to celebrating the successes of this region’s exceptional talent and projects at this year’s ceremony in May.”

The RICS Awards, East Midlands ceremony will be held on Thursday 3rd May 2018 at the Nottingham Belfry.
